Triller Champion, Relays Medal

Graduated senior Leah Triller closed out her high school track career in grand fashion, taking the Federation title in the 800m Saturday in Syracuse. Trapped in the pack at 650m, Triller went several lanes wide to break away at the 600m mark, passed the leader at 700m, and held off the field for an exciting win.

The 4 x 400m team ran big later in the afternoon, moving up from their 8th seed to capture 3rd with their first sub-4 minute race of the year (3:59). Triller, Kaitlin Close, Hannah Loder, and graduated senior Kerry Losert each fought off challengers in the race, with Close battling to the line to secure the bronze medal. The squad also placed 5th in the 4 x 800m.

On to State Championships!

Leah Triller qualified for the State Championship meet with a win in the individual 800m Thursday at UAlbany, and Holy Names took two relays on Friday to send a large contingent to the State Meet next weekend in Syracuse.

The 4 x 800m crew of Hannah Loder, Kaitlin Close, Maddy Vogel, and Triller ran away from other small school contenders, and the 4 x 400 team of Loder, Triller, Close and Kerry Losert followed suit, earning the girls (and alternates) their seats on the Section 2 bus to Syracuse.

Hannah Loder placed second in the individual 400m with a personal best of 58.80, but fell just shy of the "at large" qualifying time of 58.44 seconds.

Plenty of Speed at Sectionals

Holy Names put together some outstanding performances at Sectionals this past week, including a number of season and personal bests.

Junior Kaitlin Close and freshman Hannah Loder went 1-2 in the 400m, and senior Kerry Losert also took third in the 800m. Eighth grader Maddy Vogel also scored points for the team with a sixth place finish in the 800m. Junior Kaylee Scott took second in the 3000m, and classmate Julia Smith PR'd in the 100m hurdles.

Eighth grade Meredith Franchini scored an impressive 6th place in the 2000m Steeplechase, going under 8 minutes in only her second time in the event. The 4 x 400m relay squad of Hannah Loder, Close, Losert, and Leah Triller torched meet champion Burnt Hills and set a season best for the team in the event. Junior Mai-Lin Le took 4th in the shot put.

Three-peat, Strong Relay at Eddy Invitational

Leah Triller won her third consecutive Eddy 800m title Saturday in 2:12, and the 4x800 squad of Hannah Loder, Kaitlin Close, Kerry Losert and Triller took second with a NY#9 9:27 at Schenectady High School.

AHN Edged Out

The Holy Names ladies fought hard, but were edged out by a surprisingly strong Albany Academy squad 126-104 in the Colonial Council Championships yesterday.

With "all hands on deck" for the meet, there were a number of outstanding performances from young AHN runners who will certainly battle to regain the crown next season. Ninth grader Hannah Loder took 3rd in the 400m with a strong 1:00. Loder and classmate Brianna Wagner also ran outstanding legs in the 4 x 400 relay to help take first in the event.

Eighth grader Meredith Franchini gutted out her first ever steeplechase and took 2nd place with a time of 8:03. Classmate Maddy Vogel PR'd in the 800 for the second time this week, taking 5th with an impressive 2:25.

Upper classmen Kaitlin Close (100, 200,400), Mai-Lin Le (shot put), Leah Triller (800,1500), Alison Insero (HJ, LJ, TJ), Julia Smith (400h),and Kaylee Scott (steeple, 3000) also scored points in individual events for AHN. Full results from Council Champs at Section 2 Harrier.

The team looks to continue improving through upcoming action in Sectionals, State Qualifiers, and State Championships.

Fast Times at Johnstown

The weather finally started feeling like spring on Saturday, and AHN runners took the opportunity to put down some excellent times at beautiful Knox Field at the annual Johnstown Invitational.

Senior Leah Triller went all out in the 800m, running away from the field and scoring a NY#2 2:12:35 with classmate Kerry Losert taking 4th (2:24:35) and 8th grader Maddy Vogel going sub-2:30 to take a solid 7th.

Kaitlin Close (59:39) took second in the 400m, with 9th graders Hannah Loder (1:00:22, 3rd) and Brianna Wagner (1:06:57) logging personal bests. Mai-Lin Le took second in the shot put (31' 8") and eighth grader Meredith Franchini legged out a strong 5:08 to win her heat of the 1500m, placing 8th overall.

Two Short to Win

The AHN ladies fought hard but came up short in two key relays at the Colonie Relays on Saturday. In the 4 x 800 the squad of  Kerry Losert, Kaitlin Close, Kaylee Scott and Leah Triller took second behind BHBL with a time of 9:28:19. In the SMR the team of Close, Hannah Loder, Losert and Triller fell to winner Shenendahoa with a time of 4:12:10.

The shot put relay trio also placed an impressive third behind large schools Shaker and Shen.

Anchors Away!

Seniors Kerry Losert and Leah Triller anchored AHN relay teams to exciting wins at the Cohoes Relays Saturday.

Losert, in her first year of track, held off a charging Bethlehem team over the final 400m of the sprint medley relay to secure the win for her teammates Julia Smith, Hanna Loder,  and Leah Triller.

In the 4 x 800 Triller chased down Colonie's anchor and caught her in the final 100m to grab the win for the AHN team that included Loder, Kaitlin Close, and Maddy Vogel. The time of 9:40:9 set a new meet record, breaking the 2006 mark held by Holy Names team of Bradley, White, Ohm and Hardwick.

Ladies Fly at Eagle

AHN runners posted wins and strong performances at the Bethlehem Lady Eagle Invitational Saturday. Leah Triller (1000m) and Chamberlain Harris (novice 800m) won their events, and Alison Insero (hj) and Kaitlin Close (600m) placed second.

Fresh Legs!

The large crop of emerging AHN runners is starting to make itself known in the Colonial Council, as 3 underclassmen and a senior took first in the Colonial Council Relays this week at Albany Academy. Senior Mackenzie Kennedy was joined by freshman Chamberlain Harris and eighth graders Madi Vogel and Meredith Franchini to take first in the 4 x 800 meters.

Kerry Losert (Sr) and Kaitlin Close (Jr) also led another pair of youngsters (Mary Grace Polsinelli (8th) and Ellie Cepiel (7th)) to second place in the 4 x 400m .

Spring Season Underway!

The AHN outdoor track season kicked off this week with a decisive dual meet win over Ichabod Crane and strong performances at the CBA/LaSalle relays. The team boasts a large number of young runners who are certain to improve as the season progresses, so it is sure to be an exciting year out at the track.

While results of the dual meet are not available online, AHN posted wins in nearly every event, and many top 3 finishers. On UAlbany's new surface for the CBA relays senior Leah Triller set a meet record in the 1500m of 4:46:31 (NY#6), just passing the previous mark held by Holy Names' own Elizabeth Maloy. Senior Alyson Insero took first in the long jump (15' 2.5"), and second in the high jump (5'0").
